Getting Started
Mini highlands are a hardy breed that have became increasingly popular in recent years, due to their friendly dispositions, ability to withstand a wide range of temperatures and weather, and their need for much less acreage compared to angus or similar, bigger cattle breeds.
Mature sizes will vary depending on genetics, with height ranging from 36 inches (micro miniature) to 48 inches (midsize miniature) and weights anywhere from 500-800 lbs.
It is suggested to have 3/4-1 acre, of good forage crop, per head of cattle, along with fresh hay and grains to supplement as needed.
A full grown miniature highland will eat roughly 10-12lbs of grass/hay per day. They also need to have access to fresh water and good quality minerals daily.
